1. The leg from Bitburg to Helenenberg (10 km)

From the Beda-Institute in Bitburg, crossing the Bedaplatz, the route follows the Gartenstraße /Hubert-Prim Straße to the Franz-Mecker-Straße which directly leads to the Kolmeshöhe. We follow the route till the refuge hut; in front of that we walk to the left along the country road into the valley.

In the valley we follow the route to the left and then the B 51 and there to the right till the Masholder parking place. Over the bridge passing the DRK (red-cross-base), we reach the village of Masholder. There we leave the church to the right and take the hiking trail No. 9 to Oberstedem. In front of the Arens farm shop in Oberstedem we take the hiking trail E to Eßlingen. From Eßlingen we follow the K 22 or No. 7 to Meckel; from there the K 22 to Gilzem.

 We cross the village of Gilzem and at the end of the village reach a country road leading up to the right to the forest. We walk along the edge of the wood, then cross the field to the forest vis-à-vis. There we turn to the left and immediately to the right and cross the forest. Then we  reach the road from Eisenach to Helenenberg. After approx. 500 metres to the right we reach the Helenenberg.
