1. From Eupen to Krewinkel via Baraque Michel (ca 100 km)
Map material: Wanderkarte Hohes Venn, Wanderkarte am Fusse des Venns,
Wanderkarte Rund um den Bütgenbach

From Eupen we follow the blue
stringer sign first to Nispert, then to Diepbach and then we
follow the sign with the yellow and blue crossbeam till the refuge hut. From
there we follow the blue stringer and the green rhombus till Mospert.
With the red stringer we take the trail through the Tote Venn till
Bellesfort and then follow the Weser (yellow crossbeam) till the
estuary of the Steinbach. We follow the Steinbach till the
information panel and then the white stringer on yellow ground till the
Reinatzhof ( modern pilgrimage site, also in the 13./14. century).
From the Reinartzhof we go
back to the junction with the blue cross which we follow till the
Eschbach brook. We walk along the Eschbach (white stringer on
green ground) till the nature sanctuary Hohes Venn. After leaving the
nature sanctuary we follow the red stringer till the Getzbach brook
and from there to Ternell. (Easier: From Reinatzhof two fixed
paths are leading through the nature sanctuary before the forest track ends.
The right one leads directly to the Getzbach brook from where we
directly reach Ternell).
From
Ternell the route continues with the red stringer and later with the
GR 573 up to the Hilltal valley and then with the green crossbeam
till the planks at the Großen Venn and further to Baraque Michel
with the Fischbach chapel (hikers accompanied by a dog please follow
the GR 573 till Signal de Botrange and then pass the nature sanctuary
till Baraque Michel)
We follow the same signs (without
dogs over the planks; with dog pass the Zone C to the right and then towards
Baraque Michel) till the Cross of the Engaged. (Once - to announce
their wedding - an engaged couple undertook the way from Malmedy over
the dangerous Venn von Jalhay. They were caught by snowfall and
frozen to death in the night.) From there the trail leads over the
Herbôfaye brook to Pont de Bèleu. We take the bicycle path till
the No. 68 and cross the road. After about 100 meters walking in the moor
towards Baranque Michel we take the trail with the blue crossbeam and
the green stringer to the right into the valley of Bayehon. Passing
the cascades (Cascade du Bayehon) we reach via Moulin de Bayehon
the valley of Warche and then the palace of Reinhardstein.
Afterwards we proceed to the lake of
Robertville and from there follow the sign with the yellow vertical
bar till the bridge of Haelen. Following the blue horizontal bar we
reach Champagne. From there we follow the road to Weywertz
(deficient sign-posting on the map).

From Weywertz we follow the
yellow cross and the red horizontal rhombus till the railroad line. Behind
the railroad line we take the green horizontal line to Bütgenbach and
then the red horizontal line to the storage lake Bütgenbach. Along
the lake we follow the yellow horizontal line till the railroad line and the
end of the storage lake. Then we follow first the blue cross, then the
yellow cross and then the blue horizontal rhombus till Büllingen and
further to Honsfeld.
From there we follow the yellow
horizontal bar till the railroad line shortly before Buchholz. In
Buchholz (in front of the Waldfrieden hotel and restaurant) we
follow the green vertical rhombus through the valley Frankenbachtal
and via Igermondermühle till Manderfeld. From Manderfeld
we follow the yellow cross till Krewinkel. There we visit the chapel
(about 3 kilometres away in Weckerat there´s a possibility to stop
for a bite to eat). From Krewinkel we take the yellow cross via
Weckerath to the border and then following the blue horizontal bar reach
the Our.
Easy release of the trail:
From Eupen via Gr 573 to the natural preserve center of Botrange and then
via GR 56 to the Reinhardstein, Bütgenbach, Tocherath, Buchholz up to
Manderfeld. Then by following the yellow cross up to Krewinkel.
